Foodservice Trends and Predictions for 2022

2022 Foodservice Trends

There are few industries in the world change as quickly and as often as the foodservice industry. It can be challenging to keep up with what's hot and trending in a constantly evolving setting. The best you can do is look at trends and predictions like these and stay on top of them. Here are some foodservice trends and predictions for 2022.

Carry-Out Will Remain Busy

Thanks to the pandemic, restaurants saw a massive increase in carry-out sales, and the trend will likely continue through 2022. Some of it will come from residual effects of the pandemic, but a lot of it will be because people found out they like the convenience of carry-out over going to a restaurant. As a result, many restaurants are changing their layouts in the front and back of the house to accommodate the increase in carry-out growth.

Sticking With The Classics

Ongoing supply chain issues will lead to a relatively subdued year in menu innovation because restauranteurs don't know what will be available to them. You will see a lot of classic and basic menus as restaurants try to deliver uninterrupted service to guests.

Continuing the Digital Trend

Restaurants have truly embraced technology, and that trend will only continue in 2022. A few items we will see more of in the coming year are tablets in servers' hands instead of pen and paper and digital menus on guests' phones.

Ghost Kitchens

Many restaurants are starting to launch or partner with ghost kitchens, capitalizing on the growing carry-out trend. These are restaurant concepts that are delivery only and operate out of another company's kitchen.

Healthier Options

For the restaurants planning menu overhauls this year, you will likely see a lot of healthier and sustainable options like plant-based meats. A combination of people being more conscious of the environment and COVID-19 scaring people into being healthier has led to greater consumer interest in these products.

Moving Fast

One thing is sure, the demand for restaurant food isn't going anywhere, so owners and managers need to be ready for whatever trend comes their way. Contact us to find out how we can help you accomplish your goals and make 2022 your best operating year yet.
